HVAC technicians who are certified to handle chemical refrigerants can make even more money than those who do not carry this type of certification. There are two different types of certification. One to service small low-pressure units which are typical of residential air conditioning units. The other certification enables an HVAC technician to handle refrigerants necessary for large high pressure units. Large high pressure units are more likely associated with commercial units. Applications for HVAC certifications are received by the EPA and a test for the certification requested is then scheduled.
