HIFU Prostate Cancer treatment was the first widely acceptable use for the technology in the United States. The High Intensity Focused Ultrasound technology is designed to penetrate and destroy diseased and damaged tissue without invasive and painful surgeries. There are also much gentler applications for the technology that can be part of therapies for many medical conditions. The treatment for Prostate Cancer uses a trans-rectal probe to deliver heat into the Prostate which can kill the diseased cells. Results of these treatments are being compared to those of surgeries, which is a tremendous breakthrough in the comfort and positive outcome for Cancer treatment. A more high intensity process of complete destruction of the Prostate Gland with no necessity for surgery. This outpatient surgery will take anywhere from one to three hours and patients will be home the same day. It may take a week or two to get life back to normal.
