Vehicle Title Branding in the US

In the United States it is mandatory that a vehicle which has been involved in a serious accident or has been very badly damaged due to fires or floods be given a “vehicle title branding”. Vehicles which have been deemed as a total loss by an insurance company, who have determined that the cost of repairing the vehicle is more than the market value are branded as Rebuilt, Salvage or Irreparable.

In some cases vehicles which have been branded as salvage can change their status to rebuilt. What it means is that the vehicle has been repaired and it is now OK to be driven. These rebuilt vehicles are typically advertised as rebuilt cars.

Salvage cars for sale are cars which eventually can be determined as roadworthy, but the cost of repairs is estimated to be around 75% of the market value. These cars are inspected for structural damages and after determining where the parts have been sourced from the car is given a “Salvage “title.
